Manual Therapy

What is manual therapy?

Manual Therapy is specialised form of physical therapy delivered by skilled hand movements intended to produce any or all of the following effects – improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion of the joint complex, mobilise or manipulate soft tissues & joints, induce relaxation, change muscle function, modulate pain, reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation and movement restriction.

Using the efficacy of mechanical, neurophysiological and psychological effects, the therapist takes the route of physical intervention and massages, manipulates, stretches, exercises or resists a specific or set of joints, muscles and tissues. All hands-on therapeutic care provided in physiotherapy generally comes under the umbrella of Manual Therapy.

There are several forms of Manual Therapy, that may be deployed by a trained therapist to impart the necessary manipulation, massage, pressure, resistance, assisted or individual mobility to a tissue, muscle or joint complex.

We offer a wide range of manual therapy programs, targeting your specific needs and adjusted as per your specific profile. The selection of technique varies depending on assessment and individualised goals set by you. We note your goals and tailor a plan that will help you achieve optimal physical health throughout your life.

How we can help you

  • JOINT MOBILISATION:

Gentle and repeated light, mid or end range stretching of specific joint, aiming to break the stiffness and restore normal joint mobility.

  • JOINT MANIPULATION:

Localised end range thrust techniques that are designed to push beyond an abnormal barrier to movement and restore normal range of movement.

  • TRIGGER POINT THERAPY:

Direct pressure is applied to specified points on tender muscle tissue to reduce muscle tension and provide pain relief.

  • MYOFASCIAL RELEASES:

It is often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome. The pain usually originates from specific points within your myofascial tissues called “trigger points”.

  • STRETCHING:

These techniques improve the overall range of movement, particularly if you are finding it difficult to work with these techniques by yourself.

  • NEURAL MOBILISATION/STRETCHING:

A structured approach to treat dysfunction arising directly from a nerve. It utilizes techniques to safely move dysfunctional nerves in the limbs and improve their mobility.
